Express Entry after the ITA: your 60-day document checklist
Your invitation to apply is valid for 60 days. In that time you submit a full permanent residence application with every document that backs up your profile. Here's what IRCC's checklist and instructions ask for.
The rules of the 60 days
- You have 60 calendar days to submit. If you don't, the invitation expires, your profile is removed from the pool, and you'd need a new profile.
- You can decline the invitation and go back into the pool.
- Incomplete applications are rejected, the fees are refunded, and you'd need a new profile.
- Officers check your eligibility and score again when you submit. If your score drops below the draw's cutoff, the application can be refused.
Documents everyone needs
- Passport or travel document for you, your spouse or partner, and accompanying children
- Police certificates
- Proof of work experience, usually a reference letter for each job
- Proof of your medical exam, which is required upfront again
Documents if they apply to you
- Proof of funds, or a letter explaining your exemption
- Proof of studies and your Educational Credential Assessment reference number (the assessment must be less than 5 years old)
- Language test results less than 2 years old when you submit
- A certificate of qualification, for trades
- Birth certificates for dependent children, marriage or divorce certificates, and common-law evidence
- A representative form, if someone is helping you
Fees
IRCC lists a processing fee, the right of permanent residence fee, and the biometrics fee. Check IRCC's fee page for current amounts before you pay.
Common questions
How long do I have after an Express Entry ITA?
60 days. If you don't submit, the invitation expires and your profile is removed from the pool.
Do I need a medical exam before I submit?
Yes. IRCC requires upfront medical exams again, and applications received on or after October 21, 2025 without one may be rejected.
