Express Entry medical exam: upfront medicals are back
For a while, Express Entry applicants didn't need a medical exam before submitting. That's over. Plan for it inside your 60 days, or earlier.
What changed
IRCC's instructions say upfront medicals weren't required between October 1, 2023 and August 21, 2025. Applications received on or after October 21, 2025 without an immigration medical exam may be rejected.
What to upload
Proof of your immigration medical exam: the information printout from the panel physician, form IMM 1017B, or your medical exam number.
If you're already in Canada
IRCC's instructions describe a temporary measure, until October 5, 2029, that lets some applicants in Canada reuse an immigration medical exam from the past five years. Check whether it applies to you before booking a new one.
If the exam is booked but not done
In exceptional cases, IRCC may accept proof that the appointment is scheduled, or a letter of explanation. Don't count on it. Book early.
